Aim of this project

Sindarin, the Noble Tongue, is sure to be one of Tolkiens most beautiful languages. Tolkien really worked on Sindarin to make it fit his concept of beauty: when he changed his mind, he also changed the history of the Elvish people to reflect the language.

The Sindarin Survival Project or SSP intends to gather information about the language, and to spread knowledge of Sindarin among Tolkien fans.

"Celu" means "source" in Sindarin. This website intends to be a source for the survival of the language of the Grey Elves.

Organisation

We are currently working on one big project: the course "Sindarin for Starters". This course consists of 21 modules. Each module has three parts:

• Vocabulary: how to construct words in Sindarin
• Grammar: how to construct sentences in Sindarin
• Background: history, speaking & writing Sindarin

It is not our intention to build a complete or even completely correct grammar, word list, or cultural dissertation about Sindarin. Rather, we aim for a pedagogically sound course, just right for beginners. Once you have finished the 21 modules, you can study Sindarin in depth.
