History

The gate at the west allows you to enter the Back Convent's front yard. Via the gate at the south, you leave the beguinage and enter the "Vest", the city walk of Lier.

To the east, you see the entrance of "O.-L.-Vrouwe-Boodschap" (The Message of St. Mary).

The house was built in the 17th century and is now used by "Fotogroep Pallieter", a local group of amateur photographers. The name "Pallieter" refers to the hero in Felix Timmermans' most known work with the same title.

Murder tip

One of your policemen is taking statements of two communal workmen who were working just outside the gate at the time of the murder.

"John and Richard. We were pruning trees at the Vest when we suddenly heard a scream. We tried to reach the place where we thought it came from, then realised that our van was blocking the gate--which we had closed for safety reasons."

"John immediately took his walkie-talkie and informed the police, while I drove the van a few metres away from the gate. We ran to the Martienus Corner and saw a man kneeling-he must have discovered the body. Your car arrived only a few minutes later."
