HistoryTo the west, we see a bigger building called "Het Achterste Convent" (the Back Convent). It was built in the seventeenth century and renovated in 1712. The Convent was once a place were many beguines lived together, especially novices. After 1930, the building was thoroughly renovated and several smaller houses were made instead of one big building. Since 1965, the Back Convent is a gallery where local artists can expose their work. To the south, one of the four gates of the beguinage gives access to the "Vest", Lier's city walk. |
Murder tipFrom here, you can clearly see the vine of Ditch Side Street number 14-15. A few steps to the north and this becomes impossible. Yes, the streets of the beguinage are really narrow. |
