HistoryWe are at the crossing of St Margareth Street and the Martienus Corner (to the west) and the Bodegem Street (to the east). In the 17th century, the Bodegem Street was still named Caluwaert Street. Both names refer to popular beguines of their time. Most of the houses , especially to the left, were taken down in the 19th century. The ground was added to the gardens of neighbouring houses. |
Murder tipPaula and William are at the corner of the street, obviously discussing the recent event. You approach them and ask them what they saw. Paula: "I was just putting away our coffee cups. Through the open window, I heard something which later turned out to be a scream. At first, I didn't pay attention. But a minute later, Anna was back at my door. She was afraid and told me she would call the police from a public cell in the city." William: "Well, I was alone at home, since my brother had not yet returned from the reception. I was taking my jacket and my hat, planning to take a walk (he inhales the smoke of the cigar he has in the left hand). Then, I heard this scream and immediately ran out. I didn't see anybody, apart from the girl lying next to the pump in the Martienus Corner (he exhales). I immediately saw she was dead--and after a very short time, the police arrived. They immediately took my statement." |
